Description: Early Christian and Byzantine Art
The early Christians had no holy city nor did the cult for the Holy Places develop for some considerable time. After the revolt of the Zealots the Emperor Titus ordered the complete destruction of Jerusalem, the holy city of the Jews, in the year 70. Whatever survived remained as an appendix to the new garrison town which was laid out like a Roman camp and renamed Aelia Capitolina.
